Drawing Pains

It may not look like it but this represents about another four hours of work since the last post. I’ve been making an effort to take my time with the rendering of the darks. I rushed through it on the last drawing and was pretty disappointed with how it turned out.

I managed to get three hours of work in today so I’m making pretty good progress. For this drawing I switched from using a smooth bristol board to a Strathmore 400 series drawing paper. The extra tooth has made it a little easier to lay down the graphite so I should (hopefully) be able to do a better job of rendering the tones this time around.

Since last weeks efforts to keep me on track by posting what I do each day worked so well I decided to do it again this week. Who knows, if this keeps working for me I may even be able to start my week on a Monday like normal people instead of a Wednesday.

Because there are two different feet on the original plate I’m going to break up the drawing into two different drawings. This is my completed lay in for the foot from the top half of the plate. Of course, as I look at it know it looks like I might have made the heel a little too wide on the right side. I’ll fix it before I move on to the next step.
