Bargue Plate: Series I, Plate 6a (part 3)

It may not look like it but this represents about another four hours of work since the last post. I’ve been making an effort to take my time with the rendering of the darks. I rushed through it on the last drawing and was pretty disappointed with how it turned out.
Here’s the original series 1 plate 6a found in the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme Drawing Course.
As usual, your comments and suggestions are always welcome and thanks for checking out my work.
Until next time, have a Happy Easter!

I managed to get three hours of work in today so I’m making pretty good progress. For this drawing I switched from using a smooth bristol board to a Strathmore 400 series drawing paper. The extra tooth has made it a little easier to lay down the graphite so I should (hopefully) be able to do a better job of rendering the tones this time around.

Since last weeks efforts to keep me on track by posting what I do each day worked so well I decided to do it again this week. Who knows, if this keeps working for me I may even be able to start my week on a Monday like normal people instead of a Wednesday.
Because there are two different feet on the original plate I’m going to break up the drawing into two different drawings. This is my completed lay in for the foot from the top half of the plate. Of course, as I look at it know it looks like I might have made the heel a little too wide on the right side. I’ll fix it before I move on to the next step.
Here’s the original series 1 plate 6a found in the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme Drawing Course. I’ve printed out the original plate as close to actual size of 18″ x 24″ as I can. You can see where I taped the letter size pages together in the original image below.
As usual, your comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Bargue Plate: Series I, Plate 5 (final)

Just finished the series 1 plate 5 found in the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme Drawing Course.
I turned out ok. As usual there are parts I think I did well on and there are other parts that I would like to take a giant eraser to. For me, part of the issue is the fact that I can’t seem to to smooth out the pencil to create the appearance of a solid shadows. I can still see the pencil lines. Of course, part of that may be that I’m trying to get too dark of a value out of my pencil.
Perhaps next time I’ll try charcoal. That should be good for a laugh :)
And the original for reference.
As usual, your comments and suggestions are always welcome.

I started rendering the tones today. It’s my favorite part of the drawing but I always forget how long it takes. This is about 2.5 hours of work. So here’s what I have so far of the series 1 plate 5 found in the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme Drawing Course.
Here’s a pic of the original that I’m working from.

I only had about 30 minutes today to work on series 1 plate 5 found in the Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme Drawing Course book but I did manage to complete the lay in.
Here’s a pic of the original that I’m working from.
